While its known for its legendary waves, there’s a softer side to it too. In the southern empisphere summer months (November to March), the swell eases up, the water warms, and the beach breaks come alive with mellow, user-friendly waves — perfect for beginners.
In winter (May to September) the famous J-Bay turns on, and while it’s best left to the more experienced, it’s still a magic time to be in the water — or on the beach, enjoying the show.
The town is relaxed and has surf shops, beach cafés, and local characters adding to the charm. Steps away from the ocean, this is a place where surf culture runs deep.
Nearby breaks make it accessible for different levels, and the surrounding coastline is raw and beautiful. The beach breaks in front of the lodge and around J-Bay are the perfect setup if you're chasing your first green wave.
Add in the chance to see dolphins in the lineup and explore nearby nature reserves, and it’s clear why J-Bay holds such a special place in the hearts of those who visit.
